Visiting hotels for a showround is usually, at best, a one night affair barely giving you enough time to see any of the local environs and leaves the feeling of having driven an awful lot. So it was with great delight I accepted the kind offer of a weekend at the Barcelo Old Ship Hotel in Brighton.
I arrived at the hotel early evening and managed to get a space in the hotel’s privately owned car park (there are very few seafront hotels in Brighton that can boast this!). My …

Being the latest addition to the team is never going to be easy, especially when you are new to an industry and in your first full time employment. Day to day I have been gaining a lot of knowledge and this has been aided greatly from the information imparted by visiting account managers.
It’s great working here at Brief2Event and Square Events, I am now in my 6th week and have already had the chance to meet four different account managers from hotels ranging from 5 star luxury at …

It’s been a busy week here at Square Events. October has always been one of the busier months when it comes to Masonic Ladies Weekends and this month has been no different. This weekend past I visited Lodges weekending at Masonic Ladies Festival Hotels in Brighton, Oxford, Ascot as well as Lodges in Bournemouth. Which made for a lot of driving especially after the weekend before when I was in Chester, Chepstow and Cheltenham.
Saturday is always a day of worry for me as I am always terrified that the …

Well I certainly clocked up some miles over last weekend but I had a thoroughly great time, some extremely happy Lodges and I also won some money.
Friday morning I journeyed Bournemouth to Chester to visit the Ramada Hotel there to meet with the Lodge we had in the hotel to run through the final points regarding their Ladies Festival. The President and his Lady were delightful and we spent a lovely hour familiarising them with the hotel facilities and running through the details of their Ladies Weekend.
From there …

Here at Square Events we like to think we move with the times. It makes for an interesting dichotomy when trying to maintain a traditional, hands-on and personal approach whilst evolving to keep with the times.
Masonic Festivals are a tried and tested formula, the reason they are popular is that the ever suffering WAG’s of the average Freemason are shown the respect and appreciation their unerring devotion deserves. Also they provide a great opportunity to recruit new members and raise a bit of money for the Lodge charity list.…

The difficulty from Lodge weekends stems from the fact that everyone books individually and predicting a final number can be nigh on impossible. Next week we will look at contracts in more detail, this week I would like to focus on payment terms. When you receive the contract from the hotel the payment terms should be clearly set out, they will differ from hotel to hotel and it is of great importance that you are aware of them and can fulfil the requirement. For all our events we insist …

We’re onto point six of eight regarding the breakdown of your video about organising your Ladies Festival. I have apologised in the past for ‘blowing my own trumpet’ but point six recommends using an agency to assist you with the organising of your event so it’s going to be difficult not to!
The common misconception is that by using a company to assist in the organising of the event you are going to be paying more per head for the privilege. Not only is this incorrect but in most instances …

The reason most of our clients come to us to help with organising their Ladies Weekends is due to the savings we can make them on their events. Due to our buying power we are able to negotiate favourable rates lower than the hotel would offer direct to the general public. We organise hundreds of events a year and take a lot of the administration work away from the hotel also a lot of the hotels like the required etiquette for dealing with a Lodge and are happy for …

A lot of Lodges no longer have a traditional Festival Secretary leaving the Worshipful Master the unenviable task of putting on an event with little or no experience. Our first advice if you find yourself in this situation would be to involve your Junior and Senior Warden’s, they’ll appreciate being involved and it will make their job a lot easier in future years. The more senior brethren will also be fonts of knowledge and will always be more than happy to offer their opinions (usually whether asked for or …

If you haven’t already seen it then grab your copy of Freemasonry Today and turn to page 49. Ignore the four good looking men in the photo and read a fabulous two page feature promoting a Lodge weekend away to celebrate the Ladies Night.
We met with Michael Baigent, editor of Freemasonry Today, and spent a pleasant morning discussing the benefits of holding your Masonic weekend in Bournemouth and using an agency such as Square Events to assist with your event either in Bournemouth or anywhere in the UK. We …
